Feniks 2020

Feniks 2020

In 2020, a lot of villages and museums of the Westhoek are telling an exceptional story about the reconstruction of the region after the First World War in 2020.

Langemark-Poelkapelle will also take part and presents the following :

Exhibition: 'Law and Order in the Far West'. After the First World War, violence and crime was all around in the desolate environment of the Ypres Salient. The encouragement that people needed to take on the almost impossible task of rebuilding their house, street and village was great.. After a few months,  the police system was restored. How that’s been done, will be explained in the exhibition that takes place in the Church of Poelkapelle from 19 May to 9 October. Daily visit between 10h - 17h.

Soundwalk : In Poelkapelle you can discover an 8.5 km long soundwalk from 19 May on.. Along the pad, you'll find 8 audio pillars, that will give you special testimonies about the rebuilding. Route map available at the Tourist Office, Poelkapelle church or tourist information point “Oud Gemeentehuis’.

Cycle tour : Not only a village centre had to be rebuilt, also agriculture had to be restored. The restore of the fields and the foundation of DOVO are some of the subjects of the 36 km cycling tour between Langemark-Poelkapelle and Houthulst. The route is installed with information boards that give you more insight around the difficult but determined reconstruction of the region. To be discovered from 24 May.
